Green River Play Melon Slices
Collaborative, team of 7
2023
Fabrication, Community Project
In conjunction with Green River, Utah’s annual Melon Days Festival, I worked with a team of 7 in designing and building six 6.5’ interactive rocking melon slices, inspired by children’s playground equipment. They were created in collaboration with Epicenter, a local nonprofit. After speaking with the Mayor, the project prioritized community engagement and playful interaction during the town’s most tourist-heavy weekend, to increase tourism throughout the rest of the year.
I directed prototyping to determine safe rocking angles, developed construction drawings, sourced materials, and organized fabrication and painting. The vibrant slices were installed throughout the festival grounds as public play sculptures and are now interspersed at different sites in town.
