How Might We

Print, Film, Research
How Might We is a risograph-printed film that grew out of my design research for Ex Libris: The Public Workshop. The project explores questions around access to tools, workspaces, and materials, and challenges the assumption that we must rely on market goods to meet our needs. I imagined an alternative model of making and living, where the resources already around us can be used to build, repair, and sustain. Rather than offering more products, the film suggests a shift toward shared spaces, skill-building, and community access to the tools needed to create.

To make the film, I recorded the process of carving a linoblock and printing it on a letterpress. Each frame
of the footage was printed at 35mm scale using a
Risograph printer, then resequenced into a moving image. The result is a tactile reflection on labor,
access, and the possibility of a more self-sufficient and resourceful future.
